He came to the farm in 2023. Pip lived with a family and was so well loved, he even had his own "Harry potter" themed bedroom under the stairs and an Instagram account. His family believed he was a micro pig but he grew and grew so they asked us to look after him. His family still visit often. He loves sweet things and will perform a spin for a doughnut, he doesn't really like vegetables.
Pip is very lazy and likes to snooze a lot. He is a very loud snorer. He joined in with our yoga session, rubbing himself on a volunteers yoga matt after he had wallowed in mud. He also checked that the yoga instructor was in the correct pose.
The Lithuanian Native is a traditional Lithuanian breed of domestic pig. In the twenty-first century it is an endangered breed, kept principally for conservation reasons. The principal herd is kept at the Centre for Farm Animal Genetic in Lithuania.

She was very badly treated and was starving when she came to us, you could see her ribs and spine. She was kept in a cattle crush in a dark barn and only ever stood on concrete. She came with 2 piglets Percy and Peppa, but sadly we lost Peppa. We think Poppet rolled on her in her sleep, this is common and is not malicious with pigs.
They love dried pasta and bread. When they came to us they squealed whenever we came to feed them, now they are very calm and sometimes don't even get up. They are gentle giants. We apply sunscreen in the summer to protect their delicate skin and they love a mud wallow. Poppet had to learn how to be a pig enjoying mud, sunlight and straw.
Pigs are super smart and clean. They can learn tricks and talk to each other using grunts and oink. They use mud as a sunscreen and have very good noses for sniffing out food underground. Mummy pigs sing to their babies when it is time to eat.
Poppet is approximately 5 years old (their expected lifespan is 10-15years , up wards of 15 if kept as pet or sanctuary animal).
Poppet is a Landrace pig, this term refers to any of a group of standardised breeds of domestic pig. The original breed by this name was the Danish Landrace pig. The breed was so named because the foundation stock of the Danish Landrace were native to Denmark.

Pigs are one of the smartest animals on the planet. Their intelligence ranks higher than dogs and even some primates!
In their natural state, pigs are very clean animals. They keep their toilets far from their living or feeding area.
They are much more tolerant to cold than heat. Pigs have no sweat glands; hence they enjoy being in the mud to keep themselves cool.
When trained, pigs can understand signs and sounds of humans to get a reward. They can also solve problems faster than dogs!
Pigs use their grunts to communicate. The grunts vary depending on the pig's personality and environmental context and can convey important information about the welfare of this highly social species.
Pigs have a very good memory. Not only can they remember things after a long time, but they can also prioritise important memories!
Newborn piglets learn to run to their mothers’ sounds, and mother pigs can communicate with them through grunts whilst suckling. Due to scientific research, it is known that piglets have a certain teat order, and every piglet has its own teat.
They like to get massages! Under natural conditions, they use trees for rubbing themselves. They also like to relax while listening to music, and are very curious animals appreciating different enrichment toys.
The highest density of tactile receptors is found in the pig's snout. They have over 1110 olfactory receptors! Pigs use their snout mainly to dig in the soil and search for food. A pig's olfactory sense is about 2000 times more sensitive than a human's for certain smells.
Pigs are very social animals. They form close bonds with each other and some even like to cuddle, especially at low temperatures.
